A recent graduate of Umaine MBA program, Tamara Janashia, tells us the story of her success after attaining her degree in her own words:

"I graduated from the University of Maine in May 2007 with a Masters degree in Business Administration. It all started two years earlier when I came to Orono as part of an Edmund Muskie exchange program which is funded by the State Department of the United States and gives young professionals from the former Soviet Union an opportunity to study at the graduate schools in the United States. The decision to obtain an MBA was very important, because it meant to change my profession and start to learn something quite different, new and challenging. I have received my undergraduate degree in classical studies (Old Greek and Latin).

During my studies and after graduation I was accepted for an internship by America Georgia Business Council and the Georgian House of Greater Washington, which are located in Washington DC. It was very interesting to be involved in elaboration of strategy for entry of an American market by Georgian products, namely wine. I was able to put theoretical knowledge gained during the classes in Orono in practice and receive a first hand experince on how the market works in real world.

In September 2007, I returned back home after two years of absence to find Georgia changed a lot due to drastic positive reforms implemented after the Rose Revolution of 2003. The country made big advances in economy, education, establishment of attractive environment for investments and due to the mentioned success and its geopolitics many western countries have got interested in this region. Financial sector is booming right now in Georgia and different new projects are launched almost every month. Naturally demand for managers, professionals in financial field is very high and establishment of international companies and attraction of investments from abroad makes managers with western education even more valuable.

Already in two weeks after my return I have received couple of interesting offers, and decided to accept a position of Credit Analyst in the Corporate Credit Department of the TBC Bank. I enjoy working for one of the most reputable Banks of Georgia very much, especially because I learn a lot every day. It is my everyday duty to conduct financial analysis of different companies, negotiate with them terms of loans and support them during development of their business. In parallel, I am responsible for supervision of projects which are co-financed by the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development and the World Bank.

My work gives me an opportunity to use all my knowledge received at the University of Maine in practice. I am sure a solid base knowledge I received at the Univesity of Maine will contribute a lot to my further professional development. I am already looking forward to new challenges!"
